Engagement Rings and Things

A lot of my friends got engaged this holiday season and I couldn't be more happy for them. I love hearing the exciting proposal stories and seeing pictures of their beautiful diamond rings. I sometimes can't get enough with all the love and excitement oozing from these brides! It's so much FUN!

Then... I look down at my own finger.

I got married 2 1/2 years ago (3 years in MAY, WOOT!) and haven't worn my engagement ring for a year and a half of that time. I have a gorgeous solitaire diamond engagement ring with a sappy proposal story attached and its beautiful, fits me perfectly and I love it, but, I don't wear it.
I started wearing just my band which is simple, white gold and has a thin diagonal line of diamonds across it and to me, its perfect. I get asked a lot as to why I don't wear my engagement ring and I just brush it off or Scott answers that I lost it. (Which is untrue). When I was pregnant I ended up taking it off because my fingers were swelling and just never returned it to my finger. I love my simple band. I love how it looks and I love how it still shows I'm married.

I've noticed this being a trend while living in NYC. More and more women were just wearing their bands rather than the band and engagement ring. Maybe we're scared someone will mug us. :)  Not likely.  Then, I started thinking about the men. So, I asked my husband what he thinks about me having my engagement ring in a box (along with his high school football championship rings) in his drawer. He said he doesn't really mind, he likes how the single band looks classy. Phew! Note: If he mentioned that it did in fact bother him a great deal, I would absolutely put it on. No question.

My question is this... am I being a bad wife? Does it matter if you don't wear both of your rings at the same time and does anyone else wear just their band?

Love to hear.

Happy Hump Day, Friends!
Make it a good one.

Just to prove that I didn't lose my engagement ring. Here they are. Man, I need some damn lotion!

Now, don't ask if I've changed my last name yet. That's a whole different story. HA!

I say as long as Scott doesn't mind, then keep doing what you're doing. The look of a pretty band is appealing to me, and I love your band in particular!

I just wear my band on the weekends usually and if we're going hiking or something outdoor related. I'm still terrified I'll loose my engagement ring and check for it compulsively. But I feel more "complete" when I have them both on. Maybe it's because I don't like my fingers that much and think they look better a bit more covered up??! haha.

I wear my band, sometimes I swear my band with other little rings, sometimes I wear my engagement ring as well. I know Michael would prefer me wear it but its bulky and hits things and I sort of wish that I would have just asked for a diamond band engagement ring. I LOVE your band, its super pretty, I think you should just do what your most comfortable doing and your most def not a bad wife.

Also, I have yet to change my name as well, I changed it through facebook and email I think that's official enough. when people write me checks, I have to sign them over to Michael. Its very annoying, but I am pretty sure getting your name changed is more annoying, at least that's what I hear, and I just don't have the energy to go through all those steps!

Thanks, Ladies!! I'll keep being me and doing what I feel most comfortable in. :)

Holly, it is a pain to change your name (at least that's what I tell myself), and maybe I'll do it for our 10th year anni. HA! For now, Facebook and email official are good enough for me too.

xoxo!

No. You are definitely not a bad wife. I think your choice reflects the date that was more important to you, and I think that was your wedding day. Everybody does say that forever begins on the day of your marriage. And I do agree, it does help you avoid getting mugged. Anyway, I do agree that by just wearing your wedding band, it makes you look simple and classy. And as they say in fashion and style, “less is always more.”
