Tunes For Thursday

short and sweet.

Never liked them before, but, the newest CD from My Morning Jacket is pretty awesome.

One more day til the weekend!

I'm in Jersey at a Starbucks because the internet seems to be out all over Philly. I have seen an amazing array of people around here, including my old photography teacher at South Carolina. I'm about 99% sure it was him. Ive seen some jersey girls -- you know the kind. Pregnant woman teaching her kid how to read, a man with no shoes on. Another man who who is wearing gym shorts with dress shoes. A woman with white pants on with purple polka dot underwear and my favorite, the man sitting next to me singing audibly, "hit the road, jack". The 60's soundtrack seems to be a hit this afternoon. My day's pretty exciting, as you can tell. :)

Foster the People

here's a little blipsnip about their show last night.

http://blipsnip.it/v/ialzu831

They have some serious energy and the lead singer, Mark Foster can really, really sing. Fun fact... in really has a low speaking voice. Scottie and I were shocked.
Put it this way, there were people there from all walks of life and if you can't listen to their CD and find something you like about it then you should sit in the corner and think it long and hard.

Question

If you worked from home but it was the type of job that you had to be tied to your computer for, what would you do? You still have an hour lunch break but, you have people from all over the world IM'ing you at any given time and you are expected to write them back at a quick pace... what would you do to entertain yourself on those slow days or days you want to just do something else for a min or two? Now... throw in that you just moved into a new city and you know no one and creating relationships with people just got about 90% harder? Thoughts? I exercise, I joined a yoga studio... I don't even like working out that much. Its good and I like the results but it doesn't fulfill me. Running and yoga are both individual activities. More alone time but in the presence of people. Perhaps that's a step.  I looked into joining a cooking class... thing is, I don't have an extra 400 bucks laying around for it. Hmm, art classes... all during the day or all day on Saturday. I like my weekends with my husband. I've thought about getting a part time job to fill the void of not having anyone other than my hus to talk to, but, working evenings really means not seeing him. Its a rough situation to figure out. It's pretty lonely too. OH, and my apartment doesn't allow pets... even MORE of a bummer. Anyways, suggestions are welcome.

sometimes working from home isn't all that its geared up to be. going into some place and having work friends or a chance to go out to lunch with someone or just being able to leave your work really can be beneficial. Well, to those that are wired like me at least. And yes, I take walks, go get coffee and frequent local boutique's but again, all individual activities.

Just seeking some advice. I kinda feel like a stay at home mom who's bored but without the baby and have way more sleep. :)

I do like Philly though. The city has a lot to offer and lots to still explore. I'm not giving up on it! This is my first time living in the northeast... everything takes some getting used to. Life is always good. :)

Who Knew? Not This Girl

I went to the Jersey Shore this weekend. I was expecting worst, obviously. I am a devoted watcher of Jersey Shore, House Wives of New Jersey and the awesomeness that is Jerseylicious. Seriously. So, going to the Jersey Shore wasn't always on my list of things to do unless I was going to meet any of the lovely characters from any of those shows. So, when I showed up to this...

And, on the other side of that house is the Atlantic Ocean. We were right on the beach and I couldn't have been happier to be away from trashville Philadelphia. We ate, met with friends, met new friends and just had such a wonderful time. I actually played and jumped waves in the ocean with my hubby and just smiled and laughed a lot. I couldn't have asked for more.
I loved my weekend.

Now, on to 4th of JULY weekend.
I fee like I need an awesome outfit.

BRIDESMAIDS

how awesome is this photo?

I know how awesome it is AND the girls in it.

I loved my wedding so much.

Tunes for Thursday

Thanks to Leslie you now have something to look forward to after the Wednesday Jumble! Yes, I know you all are so freakin excited and this is breaking news (my sarcasm is grossing me out, sorry) BUT... TUNES FOR THURSDAY! I will feature what I'm currently listening to, so, well, you can too. I know how long these days are at work. Slap on your headphones and listen to these guys,

Foster the People

What's the best thing about Foster the People? I really like their album even though there is nothing that exciting about the band that we haven't heard really before. They have a passion pit sound. they have catchy sounds but MOSTLY they have reallllllllly infectious chorus's and I find myself singing them throughout the day and literally have no clue what I'm singing or if I even have the words correct. THAT's a good album. In my opinion. They are great for a summer tunes list for your backyard bbq and dancing after a few beers. Second best thing about Foster the People? They're hot.

I'm seeing them on Tuesday, look for video of the show on Wednesday. :)

Wednesday Jumble!

So here are my favorite things today...

Supposedly this was taken in Philly... I gotta find this. Who doesn't love Tom Hanks?
I was so goooood at folding notes. Keeping them out of teachers hands and getting in trouble? Not so good.

wish i had this in photography class with my FILM camera. Can you imagine? ;)

I can't help it, french bulldogs are my weakness. Just look at that guy... I would name him Gus, and then SQUEEZE him.

pretty good. I'm going to tell my sister to do this now that I'm hitched.
LOVE! Would get stolen in .00008 seconds in my neighborhood though.

I will make my kid wear this every Saturday during football season. GO COCKS!

This weekend was pretty low key which is great for catching up on sleep.
So since I don't have any pics really... here are the few I did take and yes, they are random as ever.

Your New Favorite Song

it's mine. Thanks, Tom

http://www.heymarseilles.com/

Song reminds me of when i was 24 years old getting on planes to anywhere i could afford and not caring about anything.  (my million jobs can prove that)
Now I still get on planes but I care about something... well, someone. :)

TUMBLR

I take photos of the awesome street art and wheat pastes that random artists put up in our neighborhood. Its like every week (sometimes day) is like Christmas. There is always something new which I LOVE! We've got some creative people, some characters and some crazy looking dogs and we all collectively live in what we call Northern Liberties, Philadelphia.
All we need are some damn trash cans. :)

feel free to share.

...and feel free to follow it and follow this blog too if you want.

Scott, what are we doing tonight? More Meat for you?

Insanity

I'm so mad I didn't think of some of these...
things i hope to remember to tell my daughter one day ...

wear sunscreen all the time.

I saw a picture of a girl i knew a long time ago who loved to fake bake in college and she looks about 100 now and she's maybe 32. I'm very glad I have always been psycho about layering sunscreen on and not caring if I didn't get "bronzed". I quite enjoy my white skin even though I do get a little tan in the summer wearing 70spf.

THEN I READ THIS?! I just don't know what to do now: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/06/13/environmental-working-group-sunscreen-report_n_873117.html?ref=fb

Also, eye cream. I started using that stuff at age 16. Call me crazy but hey, it does feel good and I think I do have a slightly younger glow. SUNSCREEN! EYE CREAM! Now, if only I could drink those mandatory 8 glasses of water I'd be in even better shape.

happy monday, folks. Friday yet?

Isaac Salazar

obsessed with this art from Isaac Salazar.
Isn't it beautiful and so simplistic?

Ive just gotten back into reading and am reading "shadow of the wind" by Carlos Ruiz Zafón. I really, really like it as it has many sub stories and its a bit dark. I do recommend. Anything else out there I should be reading? I love all recommendations!

Johnny Brenda's

What do you do when you get back from a super amazing honeymoon? Relax?
No... we go see three shows up the street at Johnny Brenda's.
Meet the "now official" Kirby's.
We do all.

First up was Writer. Found out they were brothers from San Diego after almost swearing they were either a Philly band or had some sort of southern roots as they guitar pick and have some bluesy feel to them but for the most part they are indie rock laced with a bit of emo. Ya know, the yoosh these days. However, they are really fun to watch. The lead singer has a GREAT voice that can almost be compared if I may say to Michael Stipe of REM. Don't hurt me, but, my ears heard it... it was GOOD! Best song, Miss Mermaid

Next up, Guards. Now, if I could rename this band it would be "We Don't Like You Unless You Have Long Black Hair". But, that is a shitty band name, so I guess I'll let them stick with Guards. What to say about them... I was spektical at first because they put crows on their set... little dramatic but, hey give em a chance. So I did and I was happy I did! They have a great low key sound that has a 60's feel and is very hooky. I believe the girl was sitting too far behind the mic as you couldn't hear her at all during the show but listening to her now, she sounds great on their EP. (TURN UP HER MIC). Sail it Slow and don't wake the dead might be my favorite on their set.  sinister sound and anthem chorus as well? SOLD.

Next up, Cults. Check out my BlipSnip of them here. Isn't she the cutest? This is my second time seeing Cults and they don't disappoint. Its great summertime I just wanna be happy music. There isn't much more I can write that every other music medium hasn't said but, check out their CD, go see their show. If you need a practical reason to... all of the bands above sets are no longer than 35 min and each one will leave you wanting MORE but you can't get more... yet.
