I'll give my pugs a plug for you. :) They do shed but other than that, you don't have to pay to groom them. They don't require a ton of exercise but LOVE to run around & play. Are great snuggle buddies (they do snore but honestly, you get used to it). They are seriously the cutest dogs ever and always elicit an "Awww" from passersby. :) Very loyal and extremely affectionate. They don't eat a whole lot. You can bring them to other people's houses without imposing too much. I think I hit on all the high points. ;)
my maltepoo rocks. he fetches and swims and is only 10 lbs and doesnt shed, pees twice a day and eats once. he is an allstar rockstar and you should get one too. i would check rescues and apply to them ahead of time that way when they get a puppy/dog in that you want you will get it right away. its weird how hard it is to adopt dogs..
i really like maltipoo, but, im not sure that Scott would like a mini white dog. Just a guess. :) I LOVE weimeremers too, Kerri, but they are too big. Pugs are crazy cute... perhaps! I'm really partial to terriers... I'll keep you posted!
